Olokoto: Nature as an Inspiration – Meet the Artist



This product takes you to the roots of art. Olokoto is a modern small loghouse and innovative design of an artist Ilmari Mäenpää. First you are able to visit Mammuttihirsi-company that manufactures Olokoto. Company visit includes company introduction and possibility to get to know Olokoto loghouse.


After company visit there is a lunch break at Koiteli rapids. In winter time you are able to enjoy an athmosphere of Tunnelmatupa warm cottage and in summer time the lunch will be served at “Kota” that is a traditional Sami people teepee like dwelling made of fabric. After the lunch you are guided to silence walk in Koiteli nature by Hanna Aarrekorpi from Sound & Silence. This walk includes being in the nature in silence, listening and feeling to the nature. You are guided to exercises that will deepen your nature connection and increase your feeling of peace and calmness. Exercises are based on forest bathing (shinrin-yogu) and ideology of eco-therapy. After walking and being in silence for one hour, you have possibility to sit at camp fire having small snack and local tar liqueur.

In the afternoon you have very unique possibility to visit Ilmari Mäenpää’s home. Ilmari is also a composer and deeply affected by Finnish nature. He is living in an old loghouse which has been built 1877. The house has been renovated 2004 – 2007 and has been home for his family after that. There is also small local history museum at his home. Ilmari will tell you about nature as an inspiration. You are able to discuss with the artist and ask questions. You’ll hear both designing and composing the music. At Ilmari’s home you have also possibility to see the lighter version of Olokoto that is called Olokolo. Olokolo is light modern and also very innovative dwelling designed for seeing and experiencing the nature.

Lunch is served in Tunnelmatupa warm cottage at winter season. Tunnelmatupa cottage is in Sahasaari-island in the middle of beautiful Koiteli rapids. Short walk there along the bridges will take you there.


During summer season you are able to enjoy lunch in Sami people traditional teepee-like dwelling, Kota. This is also situated in Sahasaari-island, next to Tunnelmatupa cottage.
